Trick-or-treat
Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at 10:07 pm | In Personal | 2 Comments“TrickerHalloween. Have a good day!” Carter proudly said to each and every house as he steadfastly held on to his pumpkin candy bag with two hands, out in front of him, never moving. After watching how much fun he was having no one could would have ever been able to tell that just minutes before he pitched one heck of a fit when we told him he had to leave his post of handing out candy at the door. We finally coaxed him but not before he grabbed a few for his own bucket. So out we went, wondering if Nyah would have enjoyed the night better if little brother stayed behind. At our first house, with smiles and “hellos” to everyone we passed, we knew Carter was ready to play! At his very first house, he actually tried to hand them candy from his bag. Nyah was a trooper as always and charmed everyone with her kitty costume. I have to say, Halloween has ALWAYS been one of my favorite holidays, and after watching my two children tonight, I can’t remember a holiday past that can even compare!
Okay, I think ANY kid who can brave this door for candy is quite brave! (Notice Nyah is no where to be seen?)
Here are our scary pumpkins carved at the Huffman household.
Shannon Sewell’s on fire!!!
Saturday, October 27, 2007 at 2:28 pm | In Personal, Photography | 1 CommentShould I say that again? The girl is absolutely rockin’!!! If you’ve been following my blog, I was among several photographers who joined Fred Egan’s 30 day challenge. The person to log the most miles in 30 days wins. The pain of defeat was, among saying that you lost (ouch), was blogging the praises of the winner along with sending them an iTunes gift card. Okay, admitting all that publically is in itself painful. HOWEVER, having to show the whole world the winner’s stats in comparison to yours? That is just plain torture. I mean, blogging about a near tie or a fierce competition is one thing; saying that in 30 days, this working woman logged OVER 139 miles is just crazy!! The girl is on fire!!! The rest of us mere mortals were under 65 miles and less for our totals.
I was feeling good about my stats the first week, logging in about 20 miles in 6 days or something like that. Then, I went away for my birthday, racked up a few more miles only to log in and see that Shannon was at like 80 miles or something absurd like that!
Is it too shameful to say that I looked at the computer, muttered a word, grabbed my keys and went to grab Coldstone?
So MAD BLOG LOVE to Shannon Sewell, who aside from being a rockstar runner, is also an amazingly talented photographer. Go to her site, check out her blog and make sure to tell her that she rocks!!
Prayer for Southern California
Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at 12:38 pm | In Personal | 2 CommentsThe devastation and loss occurring in Southern California right now is overwhelming. Many people have lost their homes or have been forced to uproot and evacuate with no further word of whether their home is still intact. My family and many friends reside in the San Diego and LA county areas and I was saddened to hear that several have been evacuated - some with fires as close as a few blocks away. As of now, they are all safe and have not lost their homes, but I ask that you keep them all in your thoughts and prayers.
A trip to the Pumpkin Farm – part 1
Sunday, October 21, 2007 at 6:27 pm | In Personal | 3 CommentsI am a fall person – I love the weather change and wish it were fall all year long! So October is definately one of my favorite months because along with the weather change, it also means PUMPKIN PATCHES!! Usually we do about 2-3 visits to various farms, and these are just a few pictures from our first trip last weekend. This one was more of a pumpkin carnival than a farm, but it was lots of fun nonetheless.
Here we are at the beginning of the corn maze – when the excitement of the twists and turns ahead of us still seemed intriguing. (Too bad I didn’t take a picture toward the end of the “journey” when everyone was begging to get out!)
My little man picking his own pumpkin.
This was a fun shot from inside the corn maze that had us stumped for a little while. (Is this what it looks like if you were an ant?)
Our second pumpkin outing was just as fun and I’ll be sure to post some soon….. Off to plan trips 3 and 4!
Fun tide-me-over
Saturday, October 20, 2007 at 10:09 pm | In Personal | Leave a CommentI’m trying to get caught up on editing wedding and family sessions, so here are a couple of fun pictures taken at my birthday with the handy point-and-shoot. It was a great time and I realized, again, how blessed I am to be surrounded by such great friends who provide so much support, laughter and love.
(Teeny, tiny pics – I know. But soon, after help from the talented Michael Nolan Jordan, the blog will bling with large (viewable) pictures!)
M.I.A.
Friday, October 12, 2007 at 1:23 pm | In Photography | 1 CommentWhere have I been? Sorry guys – thank you for all the emails! Last weekend was great – and I had a great time both at my party and camping – I have fun pictures to share as soon as I go through them all. This week has been busy with editing, sick kiddos, and an upcoming school volunteer shoot. Tonight, weather permitting, I’m shooting at a Barn Dance! Yee-haw! All proceeds will benefit the school’s PTSA and I’m looking forward to it – I mean, who can resist kids dressed up like cowboys sitting on hay bails?
I’ll be back to blogging this weekend – promise!
Off, off & away – for the weekend
Friday, October 5, 2007 at 3:12 pm | In Personal, Photography | 2 CommentsIn just a little bit, I’m off to get “dolled up” for my exciting birthday night. This is exciting for me, since I’ve become a bit of a recluse lately with work and client orders. I barely have time to cook a decent meal, let alone host one; so to have all of my friends, together at one time, is a great thrill. We are so often consumed by our daily lives that email seems to be the only contact I have with any of them anymore, so this nice break to go out, without kids, and just have a nice dinner and some drinks will be a great escape! I’m learning (in my new, older, WISER age) that friendship is so vitally important to our happiness and growth – and while we all make it alone, on a daily basis, we don’t make it in life without our support system. I am so blessed to have these friends in my life and am thankful for all of the new ones I am making through photography! So Cheers to friendship – may we never lose sight of its value and may we always give it in return!!

On a business note - in an attempt to extend my birthday as looonng as I possibly can, we are going camping tomorrow for three days on the beautiful Mendocino coast. I’ve been banned by my family from looking at my laptop, computer or blackberry, so I must relinguish my bad habits and need for control (for just a few days anyway) - and advise that I will be back in the office on Tuesday, and will finish up all outstanding orders promptly. Thank you for your patience.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!! Thank you again, for the wonderful emails to support my effort in the Blu contest. You guys are the best!
VOTE FOR ME – Pleease!! :)
Thursday, October 4, 2007 at 9:34 am | In Photography | 1 CommentWHOO HOOO!!!!!! That was what I yelled – quite loudly – when I turned on my computer this morning and saw that one of my pictures made it as a finalist in the Blu Domain photo contest “Blu eyes”!! I’m very proud of this picture, and aside from a few color corrections to help with contrast, the snowy background and runny nose, my little model’s eyes are actually THAT blue! Amazing, isn’t it?
Sooooo, if you would be so inclined, would you vote for me? Please?
I can bake you cookies, do your laundry, do your homework…… um, well – maybe bake you cookies! You can vote at http://bludomain.com/contest.cfm
The winner gets a new pair of Nikes – which, I figure, I’m going to need in order to catch up to the rockstar girls in the Fred Egan challenge who seem to run in their sleep! So essentially, a vote for me is a vote for my poor footsies!! So can you? Will you? - help a girl out! haha
(Have I said “WHOO HOO” in a while?)
