Back to school
Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at 10:51 am | In Personal | Leave a CommentA new town, a new school – new friends to meet, new rules to learn – my stomach was in knots, I barely slept a wink. I was looking forward to today and dreading it all at the same time. The first day of school in a new town…….. I was a wreck.
Lucky for me, Nyah took it better than I did! (Moms are something else, aren’t they?! – always making it worse than it needs to be!
)
My little second grader took it like a champ, and was excited to finally be around kids again after a long month of traveling and moving. I still can’t believe how big she is getting!
Look at those sassy knee-highs!!

And, of course…… the Jonas Brothers! Man, do I feel old!!

Brother wanted to be in the picture too! -

(Think I’ll make it until 3pm today?!)
I’m goin’ back to Cali, to Cali.. to Cali..
Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 11:41 pm | In Uncategorized | 1 CommentToday was a beautiful, albeit slightly hazy, 69 degrees. A wonderfully comfortable – I love my jeans and fuzzy slippers – 69 degrees. Now, after three weeks here in the Pacific Northwest acclimating to the indecisive weather, and loving every minute of it, I’m heading back to California to shoot an engagement and wedding where the incredibly horrid 104 degree weather awaits me. If this “Washington” girl dies from shock – you’ll know why!
Here is the sweet couple that I get to shoot on Sunday. The fun and talented Chris Stewart will be helping me, so I know we’ll have a great day. And despite my grumblings of the heat – which I can’t stand, part of me is looking forward to going home… ehm, I mean, to Sacramento, even if only for a weekend.
We made it!
Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 12:37 am | In Personal, Photography | 7 CommentsWell, it would be an understatement to say that the last two weeks have been long and hard. But despite the big bumps in our plans, stressors and frustrations, we are finally here ~ safe and sound in beautiful Washington.
Despite concerns that I’ve dropped off the face of the planet, I assure you I am alive and kickin’. However, the “other” rumors are true – I am no longer a resident Californian. An opportunity presented itself, rather quickly I add, that we couldn’t turn down, and after years of dreaming about returning North to my beloved state of Washington, we finally did. The last month has been more of a whirlwind than I can even begin to explain. To try to pen how my life has transpired since July 4th starting with my unsuspecting vacation to Seattle (around the time of my last real blog post) to my now, permanent move just outside of Tacoma, would be far too long a story with far too many plot twists for you to believe! While I am more than delighted to finally be back in the Pacific Northwest, nothing about this move has been easy and I have to admit that it has been a rough transition for me, including a week-long delay getting my internet hooked up, which has put me even further behind in my work. Fortunately for me, I have amazing clients, and their patience has been such a blessing.
So, what does this move mean to my clients? Not much. I continue to book clients in California and Nevada, and have commissions into late 2009 in Sacramento and San Francisco, so while my frequent flier miles will increase, my travel costs for my established clients will not. I will continue to make all appointments set for engagement sessions and weddings, and all orders will not be affected by my move. I continue to accept new California clients and am excited to expand my business in many directions. What this relocation does mean is I will now have the opportunity to explore a whole new market in my new hometown. If you have any questions on how this move may affect you and/or your assignment with me, please call or email at any time.
Ross at Flosites has been patiently, and kindly nudging me about getting my new swanky Flosites blog up and running. Since I’ve only had internet for 24 hours now, I have a few client orders to get out before I can seriously blog, but do anticipate sharing my new blog link with you all sometime next week. Lots to share – almost an entire wedding season!! Not to mention, Nyah and I found some pretty cool cupcakes shoppes to review!
And since I’ve been a bad blogger, and can’t go this entire rant without a picture – here is a picture of our new home taken with my Blackberry. You’ll have to forgive the blurriness, but you get the idea! You can’t tell from our forest setting, but we are just are just 2 minutes from the beach! I see bald eagles flying out of my new office window and can hear the rain pitter-patter on our skylights. What a nice ending to a hectic month!

Where have I been?
Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 4:21 pm | In Personal | 4 CommentsI’ve had good reasons for being MIA. We’re moving! And quite unexpectantly, I might add – but all good reasons, I assure you! So, if you can bear with me being missing for just another week, to allow for me to get moved into our new home, I’ll update you with all the fun information both about our new location, but with some fun new Tana Huffman Photography news as well! My new blog from Flosites is ready to show, as well as a new website in the making, new branding, new weddings to show and much more.
So thank you for your patience. (Anyone need 1,000 cardboard boxes?!)
Heading out
Thursday, June 26, 2008 at 10:44 pm | In Personal | 3 CommentsJust a few more hours lie between me and a very busy weekend. Saturday will be a great wedding in South Lake Tahoe, and hopefully the projected thunder storms will grace us only with dramatic clouds for our background and nothing else! After a few hours of sleep, and soaking my sore shooting hand, the kids and I begin our (“I can’t believe my mom is a crazy loon who is sticking us in a car and driving 12 hours”) roadtrip to Portland and then on to Seattle. Nyah and I have decided to add to the adventure, and we will be indulging in our favorite sugary treat = cupcakes! We have mapped out custom cupcake shops along the way in our search for the best cupcake on the West. (Watch out cupcake bloggers, the search is on!)
We have a jam-packed week of friends and activities ahead of us before reaching our final destination – the fabulous birthday party/4th of July festivities of the ultra fabulous John (and Jenna) of JFK Weddings - two of my favorite people! Check back in to wish John (who I promise I won’t say out loud how old he is turning) a great-big birthday wish!!
I will be sure to blog our adventures along the way, but will be doing no official studio business until I return. So if you need to get ahold of me, please email or leave a message and I will be sure to get back to you the week of July 7th. Have a great 4th everyone!
Like new school clothes
Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 9:29 pm | In Personal, Photography | 1 CommentI have 6 weddings that I can’t wait to show you, including one smokin’ boudoir session. Like a giddy schoolgirl excited about her new school duds, I’m fighting the internal battle of whether I should show them off now, or hold out for the proverbial first day of school and just hang tight until I get my new swanky Flosites blog! I’ve been working with Ross and we’re *this* close to being done. I know they’ll look that much sweetier on my new blog, but I’m so excited because I’ve had some amazing couples lately, and have had the chance to shoot with some of my wonderful photographer friends. So, I will wait, but man! It’s hard!
I have to say – if you haven’t had the pleasure of working with the Flosites team – you really are missing out. Customer service is something to behold these days, and you will not be disappointed.
So until then, here are a few pics from this past weekend’s wedding in Fresno where I had the absolute pleasure of shooting with Ross Tanner and his brother-in-law Sasha. I am honored to be able to call Ross a friend, and very excited to be one of his new customers.
Jason Domingues rocks!
Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at 10:13 pm | In Photography | 2 CommentsI was just sent this video link from my buddy, Jason Domingues. Jason is like my long-lost twin. He seems to share my amount of spunk and sarcasm and I just love him. Back in February, I spent a week in Las Vegas with him and our other photographer friends (Mark Eric, Sofie & Paul, Ross Tanner, Jason Cohen, Beth Daane, Chris Stewart, David Baxter and many others) during the annual WPPI conference. The members of Don’t Box Us In were finally able to get together for some much needed fun after all the hours of planning our labor of love – Leavin’ Las Vegas. That week was one of the most powerful weeks of my career as a photographer, as I made invaluable connections, finally met up with some of my closest friends and learned about the ins-and-outs of the business, (the good and the bad), and learned how to take all that I learned and apply it to my own business.
The week had its stresses and its fun. Jason put together this video – made COMPLETELY of still frame photos (repeat – he did not use a video camera) of the time we all spent together. I think all total, Jason said it was over 4,500 shots. While having a camera in your face while trying to eat a taco isn’t the most pleasurable experience, seeing the end product is just A-mazing. I could watch this video over and over again.
So take a look – watch it, turn up the speakers and then head on over to Jason’s blog to give him some love. This project truly is amazing!
An extension of my heart
Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 12:00 am | In Personal | 5 CommentsYou are told that you will never love anything more than you love your children. No greater words ring true, and I find myself saying this year after year, with each milestone my children reach. My children can stir my emotions like no other – no other person can make me feel anger, fear, hope, joy, love, or laughter all in one day!
I have been blessed in my life in so many ways, and my two children are my most prized treasures. It was three years ago today our family of three grew by one energetic and passionate child. That addition, has been a blessing (and a test) every day since. I thank God everyday that I have been given the opportunity to be a mother to two amazing, spirited, kind-hearted, healthy, compassionate children, and today, as I sit here and reflect, I can’t imagine my life without the love of my little man – my little Carter, who today, turned “free” (three).
Three years ago. Just a few hours old. Picture taken by Brandi Sidley of Kandid-Kids

And today. Full of spunk, with a heart of gold and absolute zest for life that I hope remains with him always!
